Why Readers Need a Renewal Price Check

Hosting ads show the first-term price. The bill at renewal is often two to four times higher, and readers only find out after they pay.

This widget puts the renewal price next to the intro price for each host. It helps your readers decide with the full picture, and it gives your post something to interact with.

The prices come from our own checks of each host's pricing page and from five years of archived pages. The data file behind it is the same one that powers our Price Lock Index.

FBWH Verdict

Use it if you write about hosting, WordPress or small-business websites and want a fast, honest way to show renewal prices.

Skip it if you need full plan comparisons. It covers the entry plan of each host and nothing else.

Want the full ranking behind the widget? See the Hosting Price Lock Index or the five-year price history. Weighing a Black Friday offer? Check it against the web hosting deals tracker.

Try the Widget

This is the live widget. Pick any host to see its intro price, renewal price and 3-year cost.

Copy the Embed Code

Paste these two lines into any page, post or HTML block. It works in WordPress, Ghost, Webflow, Notion embeds that allow HTML, and plain HTML pages.

<div data-fbwh-renewal-shock></div>
<script src="https://www.findbestwebhosting.com/widgets/renewal-price-shock.js" async></script>

The widget keeps a small "Data: Find Best Web Hosting" link at the bottom, so your readers can see where the prices come from. Please leave it in place.

Options You Can Add

Add these attributes to the first line to change how it looks or what it shows.

Attribute What it does Example
data-theme Dark (default) or light card data-theme="light"
data-hosts Show only these hosts data-hosts="kinsta,siteground"
data-default Host selected when the page loads data-default="kinsta"

Host names are lowercase, with a hyphen for spaces and no dots. For example, Rocket.net is rocket-net and WP Engine is wp-engine.

What the Numbers Mean

The intro price is what the host advertises for the first term. The renewal price is what the same entry plan costs when that term ends.

The 3-year cost adds 12 months at the intro price and 24 months at the renewal price. It leaves out taxes, domain fees and add-ons, so treat it as a comparison figure and not a quote.

One host in the picker, WP Engine, does not publish a renewal price. The widget says so and suggests asking sales for the figure in writing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the widget really free?

Yes. You can embed it on any site at no cost. It keeps a small "Data: Find Best Web Hosting" link at the bottom, and that link should stay in place.

Will it slow down my site?

It is one small script that loads after your page and fetches a small data file. It does not block your page from rendering.

Do I need to update the prices?

No. The widget reads its prices from our data file, so when we verify a price change every embed shows the new figure without any change on your side.

Can I show only some hosts?

Yes. Add a data-hosts attribute with a comma-separated list of host names in lowercase, such as kinsta, siteground, and the picker shows only those.

How is the 3-year cost worked out?

It adds 12 months at the intro price and 24 months at the renewal price for the entry plan. It leaves out taxes, domain fees and add-ons.

Bottom Line: Give Readers the Renewal Price Up Front

Two lines of code give your readers the number most hosting ads leave out. Use it on a hosting roundup, a WordPress guide or a small-business resource page.
