Your AI Tool Built the App. Where Does It Run?

AI coding tools can now produce a working Node.js app, API or dashboard from a plain-English prompt. The next question is where it lives, and a typical WordPress hosting plan cannot run it.

There are two routes. Managed Node.js hosting lets you push your code while the host looks after the server, and a VPS gives you root access in exchange for doing the upkeep yourself.

All plan details and prices below were read from each host's own pages on 16 October 2026. We have not deployed an app on GreenGeeks or Hostinger's Node.js plans ourselves yet, so this guide compares published plan details, not performance.

FBWH Verdict

GreenGeeks Pro is the simplest managed route for a small app: Node.js with multiple versions, Git and SSH, MySQL and 50GB of NVMe storage from $4.95/month on a 12-month term.

Hostinger suits you if you want to deploy straight from GitHub or a ZIP file: Node.js web apps on Unlimited ($3.49/month) and Cloud Startup ($7.99/month).

Want root access instead? Our Best VPS for AI guide compares five providers, and hosting your first AI chatbot or web app covers Python and Node paths.

The Options at a Glance

Host / plan Best for Intro price Renews at What you get Get started
GreenGeeks Pro Small apps, APIs, dashboards $4.95/mo (12-month prepay) $18.95/mo Node.js, Git, SSH, MySQL, 50GB NVMe, unmetered traffic See GreenGeeks →
GreenGeeks Premium More room, same toolkit $8.95/mo (12-month prepay) $30.95/mo 100GB NVMe, Node.js, Git, SSH, MySQL See GreenGeeks →
Hostinger Unlimited Budget, deploy from GitHub $3.49/mo (48-month term) $16.99/mo Node.js web apps, 50GB NVMe, GitHub or ZIP deploy, MySQL See Hostinger →
Hostinger Cloud Startup Several apps, dedicated resources $7.99/mo (48-month term) $25.99/mo 4 CPU cores, 4GB RAM, 100GB NVMe, 10 web apps See Hostinger →
DigitalOcean Droplet Full control, your own stack $4/mo Same 512MiB RAM, 1 vCPU, 10GiB SSD, 500GiB transfer; self-managed See DigitalOcean →
Vultr Low-cost VPS $6/mo (high performance) Same 1 vCPU, 1GB RAM, 25GB, 2TB bandwidth; self-managed See Vultr →

Intro prices on the managed plans run for the first term and then renew at the higher figure, so compare the renewal price as well as the first bill. The VPS prices are the same each month.

Managed Node.js Hosting or a VPS?

On managed Node.js hosting the host runs the operating system, keeps Node.js available, issues SSL and takes backups. You push your code, set the start command and connect a domain.

On a VPS you install Node.js, a process manager such as PM2 and a reverse proxy yourself, and you patch the server. That is more work and more control, which is the right trade for apps with background workers, custom ports or unusual dependencies.

GreenGeeks — Best for a Managed Node.js Setup With Git and SSH

GreenGeeks lists Node.js application support on its Pro and Premium plans, with multiple Node.js versions, Git and SSH access, MySQL databases, free SSL, daily backups and NVMe storage. Traffic is unmetered, and a free domain for the first year and a 30-day money-back guarantee come with the plans.

Pro is $4.95/month on a 12-month prepay and renews at $18.95 a month. Premium is $8.95 a month, renews at $30.95 and adds 100GB of storage; Lite at $2.95 is a single-site plan and is not listed for Node.js apps.

A planning note: the plan page leaves CPU, RAM and the exact Node.js versions unlisted, so check those with GreenGeeks support before you move a resource-heavy app. GreenGeeks states a 300% renewable energy match; see our green hosting fact-check for what that does and does not prove.

  • Node.js with Git and SSH on managed hosting
  • MySQL, free SSL and daily backups included
  • Unmetered traffic and a 30-day money-back guarantee

Hostinger — Best for Deploying Straight From GitHub

Hostinger's Node.js page lists Node.js web apps on its Unlimited and Cloud Startup plans. You can deploy from GitHub, push from GitHub or drop in a ZIP file, and the plans include managed MySQL, a one-click Supabase integration, managed SSL and daily backups.

Unlimited is $3.49 a month on a 48-month term and renews at $16.99. Cloud Startup is $7.99 a month on the same term, renews at $25.99 and adds 4 CPU cores, 4GB of RAM, 100GB of NVMe storage and 10 web apps.

A planning note: the lowest prices need the 48-month term, so budget for the full prepayment. Our Hostinger review covers the wider plan range.

  • GitHub, push and ZIP deployment
  • Managed MySQL and a one-click Supabase integration
  • Cloud Startup adds dedicated CPU and RAM and 10 web apps

DigitalOcean and Vultr — Best When You Want Root Access

A DigitalOcean Droplet starts at $4/month with 512MiB of RAM, 1 vCPU, 10GiB of SSD and 500GiB of transfer, and a 2GiB Droplet is $12/month. Vultr's high-performance entry is $6/month (1 vCPU, 1GB RAM, 25GB, 2TB).

Both give you a blank Linux server. You install Node.js, run the app with PM2 or systemd, put nginx in front and manage updates, which suits apps that need background jobs or a custom stack.

A Deploy Checklist for an AI-Built Node.js App

  1. Ask your AI tool for a production-ready start. Request an Express (or similar) app that reads its port from an environment variable and has a start script in package.json.
  2. Keep secrets out of the code. Put API keys in environment variables and add a .gitignore before you push.
  3. Push the project to GitHub. Both managed hosts above work from Git.
  4. Create the hosting account and pick a plan that lists Node.js support.
  5. Deploy and install dependencies, set your environment variables and the start command, then open the app on the host's temporary address.
  6. Connect your domain and SSL, then test the live app once before you share it.

Menu names differ between hosts, so follow your host's own Node.js documentation for the exact clicks.

Which Should You Choose?

Choose managed Node.js hosting if

  • You run a small app, API or dashboard
  • You want the host to handle the server, SSL and backups
  • You prefer deploying from Git or GitHub

Choose a VPS if

  • You need root access, background workers or a custom stack
  • You are comfortable patching and monitoring a server
  • You want a fixed monthly price with no renewal step-up

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I host a Node.js app on shared hosting?

Only on plans that list Node.js support. GreenGeeks lists it on its Pro and Premium plans and Hostinger on its Unlimited and Cloud Startup plans, while a typical WordPress-only plan does not run Node.js apps, so check the plan page before you build.

Do I need a VPS to host an AI-built Node.js app?

No. A small app, API or dashboard runs well on managed Node.js hosting, where the host looks after the server. A VPS suits apps that need root access, background workers or a custom stack, and it comes with server upkeep that is yours to do.

How much does Node.js hosting cost?

Managed Node.js plans in this guide start at $3.49 a month on Hostinger's 48-month term and $4.95 a month on GreenGeeks Pro's 12-month term, and renew at $16.99 and $18.95 a month. A DigitalOcean Droplet starts at $4 a month and a Vultr high-performance server at $6 a month.

Is GreenGeeks Node.js hosting good?

On paper it is a capable small-app host: Node.js with multiple versions, Git and SSH access, MySQL, NVMe storage, free SSL, daily backups and a 30-day money-back guarantee on Pro and Premium. We have not deployed an app on it ourselves yet, so this page compares published plan details, not performance.

Does GreenGeeks really run on renewable energy?

GreenGeeks states a 300% renewable energy match, bought as renewable energy certificates through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. We explain what that does and does not prove in our green hosting fact-check.

The Bottom Line

For most AI-built apps, managed Node.js hosting is the quickest way online: GreenGeeks Pro for Git and SSH on a managed plan, Hostinger for deploying from GitHub. Pick a VPS when you need root access, and price the renewal as well as the first bill.
